🎙️ What's the Vibe?
Walking into Stranded, I was immediately struck by the clean, inviting vibe of the place. It had a laid-back, no-frills feel, like a cool little hideaway for music lovers. The lone guy working the counter greeted me warmly and let me browse at my own pace, which I appreciated.
🎵 What's Spinning Here?
As I scanned the shelves, I was pleased to see Stranded had a killer selection, especially in my favorite genres of ambient, electronic, drone, and modern classical. I was thrilled to find a Grouper LP that the friendly staff member recommended - a real gem I hadn't seen anywhere else. They had a nice mix of new and used rock as well, all nicely curated.
💎 Any Rare Finds?
I stumbled upon some real rarities and collector's items too, including some hard-to-find vintage blues and jazz records. Unfortunately, one of the used LPs I snagged ended up having a bad warp, but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt - they likely didn't have time to play-test every record in their collection.
🏘️ The Neighbourhood
Stranded's location in downtown Oakland added to the cool, urban vibe. It's the kind of place that feels a bit off the beaten path, like a hidden gem that only the true music aficionados know about. I can imagine it's a beloved hangout for the local vinyl enthusiasts.
💰 What's it Gonna Cost Ya?
The pricing at Stranded seemed quite reasonable, with new releases and more common used titles going for standard rates. I did splurge on a $50+ rare find, which unfortunately had an issue, but that's the risk you take when hunting for those elusive collector's items. Overall, I'd say the prices are fair and in line with what you'd expect at an independent record shop.
